I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year! May this next year be joyous & prosperous for you & your family.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be working on a new website next week so my site might be down for a day while I get everything switched over & get the links working properly. It probably will be a work in progress for the next couple of weeks until I get it customized to my liking. I am switching over to a blog that is a website & a website that is a blog - you will see what I am talking about soon!

I wanted to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year!

Christmas Deadlines

If you are thinking about purchasing any prints or products for Christmas NOW is the time. Print orders generally print & ship within one day and products generally take a couple of days longer than prints to produce.

All horse show photos ordered online have the following shipping deadlines to make it to you in time for Christmas: First Class - Monday Dec 8th - this method can be slow I would opt for the priority mail just to be safe, Priority Mail - Friday Dec 12th & Express Mail- Thursday - Dec 18th.

If you order directly with me - via phone or email - you need to have your order in by Sunday December 14th.

Our Thanksgiving Trip

This past week Ben & I traveled to Irvine California to spend Thanksgiving with his Dad, Reynolds. We had a great time hanging out & visiting some of the local sites. The weather was warm - at least we thought it was, the locals thought it was cold.

This was taken at the Montage Resort in Laguna Beach. We had a great Thanksgiving dinner here.

On Friday we were trying to decide what to do. "Let's go to Disneyland!" Here are our excited Disneyland faces.

Disneyland was decorated for the holiday season. We were talking and none of us had been to Disneyland in 20 years so it was really fun to experience it again. The lines were really long and the park was packed but we still got to ride most of the rides we wanted to.

Once it gets dark there was a holiday parade - none of the pictures turned out of it. They also had a fireworks display but we didn't stay for that. Cinderella's castle was all lit up - Ben & I had to pose for a pic in front of it.

On Saturday we went to Balboa Island & Newport Beach. We walked around the island looking at the shops & cute houses. Some of the residents really get into decorating for Christmas - below is a over the top decorated house. We took a small ferry over to Newport Beach & ate lunch on the beach. I made the mistake of feeding french fries to the birds - we were swarmed! Luckily there were a bunch of kids around that took great pleasure in chasing the birds away from us.

On the last night we went out for authentic Korean food which was a first for us.

We had a great time & are happy to be back. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving too!

Unicycles

Last Friday I met my friend, Ben downtown with his brothers to get pictures of them riding unicycles. It was a sight to see on the Grove! This has been in the works for almost a year and it finally came together - it was hard getting everyone together at the same time.

The Key Family

Last Friday I went out to Eagle to photograph the Key family. I had a great time meeting everyone and all the critters. This was a really fun job with the variety of animals - especially the great dane & donkey. Ben assisted me on this job - there were a lot of ears to get up at the same time!

I wanted to share a Asuka coffee table book I designed for Cathy of her husband Mike and his two horses - Doolittle and Remmy. Wednesday was the deadline for guaranteed Christmas delivery and I finished it on Tuesday. The book goes as follows - the first image is of the front and back cover(right hand picture is the front), second image is the 1st page, third image are pages 2 & 3 (2 is on the left), fourth image pg 3 &4 and so on..... the last image is the last page.

I think the book turned out really nice. It flows really well and tells a story of Mike & his horses - you can tell how much he really loves them.

Chris and Embie

On Saturday I went out to Once Upon A Horse to photograph Chris and her horse Embie. Unfortunately the weather was not cooperating with it raining outside. I was hoping for a break in the rain sprinkles because the light was just beautiful out but no such luck.

I decided we were going to get some of that fall color while shooting in the barn. The last two photos here were the result of that. I used a reflector or flash to make it work. The others with the black background were taken with Chris & Embie in the barn entrance and me outside in the rain. All the pictures turned out fabulous!

Nacho Mama

Last Friday I went out to Sue Duncan's place to photograph sales pictures of Nacho Mama. Nacho is an 16hh, 11 year old Thoroughbred mare. She has been trained in dressage the past 3 years and is solidly scoring in the 60's. Nacho has done lots of trail riding and would make a 4-H youth a great horse - both english and western. She does need a intermediate rider. Nacho's temperament is a 4 out of 10 with 10 being "hot". Her asking price is $5000.

Emily & Dobbin

On Sunday I went out to Once Upon A Horse in Eagle to photograph Emily & her horse Dobbin. I think Dobbin was one of the easiest horses I've had this year to photograph - he just stood there waiting for us to do our thing. Although it was a challenge to get his ears up - we had to pull out the treat bucket for that! I had a great time & the pictures of Emily & Dobbin turned out fabulous! Their connection really came out in the pictures - capturing that connection is what I love about photographing people and their horses.

The Dale Family

Last Thursday I went to photograph the Dale family. My friend Lauren asked me to come out and get a few much overdue family photos. They have a beautiful home & barn which made getting great backgrounds for the photographs easy. I love how barn entrance photos turned out with the mocha color - it looks so classy & old but modern.

I also got a few photos of Courtney and her new horse, Fortune. I am really looking forward to seeing Courtney in the show ring next year with her new buddy. We snapped a few in the barn entrance - that is how I get the black background. Next we went out to the pasture to snap a few more pics. I just love how beautiful the evening light is!

Amanda & May

Last Tuesday I was out at Once Upon A Horse to photograph Amanda and her horse, May. For the past 2 years I have taken photos of Amanda & May in the fall. It has been fun to watch the changes over the years. You can tell by the photos that Amanda & May love to spend time together!

1st Sessions at Jackie's Feed Store

Last Friday I set up a backdrop at Jackie's Feed Store in Middleton. I set up a few bales of straw and a wagon wheel to give it a more western feel. Here are a few pictures from a couple of sessions that I did. Pet costumes in Halloween & Holiday themes are available to rent. After Halloween I will also bring garland to hang on the wagon wheel to add a more holiday theme if someone wants it.

If you are interested in getting pictures done of your pet or family this is a great way to do it. My session fee is $20 payable at the time of the shoot and all prints are 20% off for 2 weeks after your session. If you don't need any pictures just stop on in to Jackie's Feed Store she has a great selection of pet, horse & livestock food along with a variety of pet supplies & toys.

Martha (Taylor's mom) had to do some funny antics to get Irrwisch's ears up which left us with great smiles & lots of ears up!! On Sunday I went out to Once Upon A Horse in Eagle to photograph my friends, Mitch & Beth with Sam (the horse) & Allie (the dog). It was a beautiful day with the fall colors really showing. Every year I go out to get pictures of Mitch & Beth for their Christmas cards & every year I have to pick my brain to try & get something different from the year before. This is always a fun session since Mitch & Beth are great and the challenge of trying to get Sam & Allie's ears up at the same time!

California Workshop Trip

Last week I went to Northern California to attend a workshop - Listening Withing - using horses to reconnect to ourselves, intertwining horse activities with practicing tools to enhance self expression. If it sounds pretty deep it was! I had a great time experiencing this new way of thinking and looking at the relationships between horses & humans. I walked away with a "lighter" or more zen like feeling (even my husband noticed this when he picked me up from the airport).

If you have read the books " The Tao of Equus and Riding Between the Worlds by Linda Kohanov" you will understand a bit more about the workshops. If you haven't read either book, check out Riding Between the Worlds it is a lot easier of a read put in more basic terms than The Tao of Equus. I am seriously considering becoming a facilitator to put on these types of workshops by next Fall. Stay tuned for further updates on my decision.

Bluenote Arabians Part 2

Last week I went out to Bluenote Arabians in Emmett to photograph a couple of sales horses and senior pictures of Katie. I posted Katie's pictures last week and I am catching up with my blogging so here are the sales horse pictures. If you are looking for a horse check out these two, they both seem to have great dispositions.

Cricket is a yearling Corab - quarter horse/arabian cross. He is a great western pleasure prospect.

Tacki is a 6 year old Arabian mare, straight Egyptian with her bloodlines. She is green broke, loves to please and would make a great 4-H project. She is best suited for a intermediate rider.

Richard, Rosie, Turbo & Casey

I was in California this past weekend for a workshop. While I was staying with my in-laws I had the chance to photograph their friends, Richard & Rosie with their dogs Turbo & Casey. I had a great time getting pictures of all of them. I couldn't have asked for cuter dogs to photograph!

I took photos of the dogs casually hanging out and some with the family. Rosie & Turbo have this amazing bond as you can see from the pictures. He is getting up there in age so this session was even more important to capture those special moments together. Casey is the younger whipper snapper that loves to push the basketball around. It is the funniest thing to watch! Sometimes he gets it a little to close to the edge & it goes into the water - good thing Richard is there to get it out!

Katie & Tawshi

Today I went out to Emmett to photograph Katie and her horse Tawshi for her senior pictures. It was so much fun to work with Katie. We photographed her & Tawshi in casual wear, in their english attire & with Katie's traditional costume. The pictures turned out fantastic! You can really tell how much Katie & Tawshi love each other!

Head Shots

Yesterday I went to Meridian Pediatrics to photograph headshots of the doctors. I don't normally do this type of photography but when you are an artist it is great to challenge yourself. I have studio lights but I opted to use window light with a white reflector setup to the right. For the background I used the wall behind the doctors. The pictures turned out great using this simple setup.

Meridian Pediatrics has a great group of doctors, nurses & staff that work there. If you are looking for a pediatrician check them out!

The Rasmussen's

Last night I met Tom, Lorene & Emily the poodle at Kathryn Albertson's Park for a photo session. The light was perfect for photographing a black dog - nice and diffused. I had a great time meeting everyone and a big special thanks to my husband, Ben who helped with getting Emily's attention. The colors are starting to change in the park making for a beautiful spot for portraits.

Val & Bea

On Wednesday I had a photo session with Val and Bea at Eagle Island State Park. We started about 6pm and the light was fantastic! The park is such a great place to go ride or have a photo shoot with the large grass fields with views of the mountains in the background.

I had a great time photographing Val & Bea. Bea was a great sport - putting her ears up without to much fuss and standing nicely when asked. These photos are going to be a Christmas present for Val's husband - boy is he going to love them!

Arlynn & Sprite

On Tuesday I went out to Emmett to photograph Arlynn and her horse, Sprite. We started at 6pm and the Emmett evening light was so warm and inviting. I had a great time photographing Arlynn who is on her western adventure after living for years in the midwest. What better way to have an adventure than with your horse? This is Arlynn's first horse and you can tell she is loving it! Happy riding for years to come.

Jackie's Feed Store Photo Weekends

Sorry for the long break in bloggings. I got back from Las Vegas and I am still recovering! Look for lots of pictures/happenings this week.

Starting October 17th I am working with Jackie at Jackie's Feed Store to set up a mobile studio for portraits - pets, family, kids, etc. I will be there every other Friday/Saturday for a couple of hours. The session fee is $20 (payable at the session) & 20% off all prints if ordered within 2 weeks of your session. Natural Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure Championships

Sorry, I have been a little tardy on blogging lately. My camera has been in the shop for repair and cleaning so I haven't been out taking pictures.

Lately I have had a few jobs that are not related to horses - except for the fact that I got most of the jobs from connections associated with people at the horse shows. On Saturday I photographed a bodybuilding championship, a mock evacuation on Thunder Mountain Line & my lovely husband, Ben set up a table with information at our friend's business - Tumble Time which was having an open house. Tomorrow I am leaving for Las Vegas for 5 days to photograph at the JUS convention at Bally's. I have never done anything like this so it should be interesting!

Here are a few pictures from the bodybuilding competition. Everyone looked fantastic and I applaud everyone there for the dedication to achieve their bodies. I couldn't do because I refuse to give up chocolate & sweets! The last one is of my friend, Lori. Doesn't she look great! Enjoy!

Howard Family

On Sunday I met the Howard family at the Boise Train Depot for family portraits. It was a beautiful afternoon. I had not been to the Depot until I stopped by last week to check it out for this photo shoot. It is a great place for photos.

I know the Howard family from the horse shows they attend. It was really fun to photograph them in a casual environment away from the busy horse shows I see them at. Occasionally I get to see my horse show clients in "street clothes" and sometimes I don't even recognize them when they are away from their horses.

Here are a few photos from the session. I used a couple of new color actions on the images. The first one is regular color, the 2nd is Mocha, the 3rd is a high contrast color -it really makes the picture "pop", the 4th is regular color and the last is a half sepia color which gives it a old time feel when color was just coming out. Enjoy!

Denali -My Superstar Horse

This posting I thought I would share a few pictures and a short story about my horse, Denali.

This first picture is Denali free jumping a 3'3" fence last week. I can't tell you how excited I was to see him jumping so well. Last year he was diagnosed with Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis or EPM. If you don't know what that is, it is a disease that is caused by a protozoa which affects the horse's spinal cord & brain. It causes ataxia & weakness, muscle atrophy, cranial nerve deficits and sometimes death. If it is not caught early the damage is permanent. Luckily Denali's symptoms were mild and were caught relatively early. The one thing that has been really noticeable is that he lost a lot of muscle with it turning soft & spongy.

We have been in a constant state of rehab since last September, starting with lots of hand walking & lunging to under saddle work this April. I also have Toni Bucciero come out once a month & do body work on him - that has made night & day difference. It has been a hard road and it won't continue to be easy but we will get there. Next year I am keeping my fingers crossed to start showing him in Hunters - as he has a natural aptitude for it!

This past weekend I went to McCall with my friend, Shawna to go trail riding. We had a great time & our horses were really good. I think it was Denali's first time in the mountains, the only thing he was scared of was going around the corners. I don't think he understood where the road went!

We took some time out to get pictures of us & our horses in a big grass field. Here are a few of me & Denali. Shawna did a great job in getting pictures of us.

This past weekend me & my friend Shawna went to McCall to go trail riding with our horses. We took this opportunity to get some photographs of us & our horses. These were taken on Saturday when the weather was beautiful. We probably would have waited a little bit later in the afternoon but someone had told us a big black cloud was coming with high winds. It turned out that wasn't the case. Nonetheless the pictures turned out great!

Leo

On Friday I went out to Once Upon A Horse in Eagle to get some sales pictures of Leo. He is a beautiful 11 year old German imported Dutch Warmblood gelding by Hemingway. Leo is 17hh with great movement since he is schooling 2nd level. He is a jumping prospect too as he shows tremendous talent. Leo has loads of personality & loves people. He has good ground manners and trailers well.

Boise Fall Classic Hunter Jumper Show

This weekend I photographed the Boise Fall Classic Hunter Jumper Show at the Idaho Horse Park in Nampa, Idaho. It was a beautiful weekend but it was hot! Everyone had great rides & their horses looked fantastic. It is so nice to see riders progressing after each show/year.

JP Arabians - Part II

Last Friday & Saturday I went out to JP Arabians to photograph more of their sales horses. Both mornings were absolutely beautiful, I couldn't have asked for better light for the photo shoot. The horses were looking beautifully groomed and turned out for their modeling session.

Bluenote Arabians

Last Friday I photographed a couple of horses from Bluenote Arabians Farm located in Emmett. The photos were taken at JP Arabian's Farm in Meridian along with a couple of theirs that will be in tomorrow's blog. It was a beautiful morning and the light was really nice. Goodrich Farms

A couple of weeks ago I went to Baker City for a day and a half to photograph Andalusian horses at Goodrich Farms. It is a beautiful farm located at the base of the mountains in the Baker valley. I was lucking to see the elk come into the pastures at night with the horses - there is a picture posted below.

All the horses were very nice movers and had wonderful dispositions. I had a great time visiting with Kristen Sandefur who owns Goodrich Farms with her husband, Eric. I don't know much about the spanish horses but I came away with a greater appreciation of them.

These pictures will be used for there website that is under construction. I will post a link later when the site is up and running for anyone interested in owning an Andalusian horse.

Boise River Dressage Show

Last weekend I photographed the Boise River Dressage Show at Once Upon A Horse in Eagle. There was a great turnout with many local riders & others that hauled in from Utah, Oregon & Wyoming. It was great to see so many great rides and all the horses looked so nice!

The show started at 7 am both days and the light was just fantastic for a few hours each morning. On Saturday morning there was a cloud that just burst into a downpour while the sun was appearing, it made for a some really cool shots (the 2nd photo down).

I am a little behind in posting photos on my blog since I have been so busy with portrait work & this past weekend's horse show. Look for a bunch more postings in the next few days while I get caught up.

Magic

Yesterday morning I went to Star to photograph "Magic". He is a really lovely Morgan, Appaloosa & Arab cross yearling. VooDoo

Saturday morning I had the pleasure to photograph Wendy & her horse VooDoo at Once Upon A Horse in Eagle. VooDoo was looking great for his photo shoot. Wendy mostly wanted riding pictures of VooDoo, but I did manage to get in a good conformation picture first. It was really nice to be able to get great movement shots this way since I am usually really limited at the shows.

JP Arabians

Yesterday I went out to Pat & Jon Anson's JP Arabians farm to photograph 3 horses. I had a great time! It was a beautiful morning and Pat had the horses looking their best. I photographed 2 sales horses and their granddaughter and her soon to be new horse.

Pat & John raise good quality horses with quiet dispositions and athleticism. The chestnut colt & grey mare are for sale if you are interested in owning a Arabian horse, Pat & Jon have some really nice ones. Give them a call at 888-0954. Next month I am going back out to photograph more sales horses. Look for those the middle of August.

Oldenburg Inspection

Yesterday I went to the Oldenburg Horse Inspection at the Joan Corsberg Memorial Horse Park in Nampa. It turned out to be a great day with lots of very cute & talented foals.

For those of you that don't know what they do at an inspection - there is a judge that scores the foals for conformation, movement and overall impression. The mares can also be judged. Hector and Fran's Wedding

On Friday I photographed Hector & Fran's wedding at Kathryn Albertsons Park. It was a beautiful day! Hector & Fran had a short ceremony at the park and the reception at their home later on that evening. I had a great time in sharing their day! It also brought back memories since I got married at the Rookery in Kathryn Albertsons Park approx. a year & week ago.

Media Shoot Canine Festival

I had a photo shoot for the Canine Festival last night. A couple of last years pageant dogs were there to be showcased on this year's poster & program. I got so many great shots of the dogs - when they were sitting still! The puppy was especially cute.

Illinois

This past week Ben & I went to Manhattan, Illinois to visit my family. We had a great time relaxing and enjoying all the green around us. The weather was perfect - mid 80's with a couple of days of scattered rainshowers. We didn't do much besides hang out at my parent's house & visit family. We did manage to go to Chicago for a day and visit Lincoln Park Zoo and Navy Pier.

Hector & Fran

This weekend I met my friends Hector & Fran at Kathryn Albertsons Park for their engagement photo session. They are getting married next weekend in the park. This is my first wedding as a photographer and I am excited!

I think this is one of my biggest posts so far since there were so many good pictures to pick from. Fran & Hector had a great time and it shows in the pictures. We started at the park & ended up back at their house to get some pictures of their pugs - Yogi & Jupi.

Alaska & Ballad

I went back out to Once Upon A Horse on Saturday night to photograph Alaska & Ballad. They are both Lipizzaner horses. The light was perfect to get great pictures of white horses. All of these pictures will be going up on the new Once Upon A Horse website that is still under construction. When it gets up and running I will post a link to check it out.

Next year you will have to look for baby pictures! Alaska is due to have a foal next year and Ballad will be the proud papa of a brat pack (he has 4 other babies coming too).

Last Wednesday night I met Janie & her dog, Chewy out at Barber Park for a quick photo shoot. I have been working with Janie to be the official photographer for the Boise Canine Festival. The festival will take place August 30-31st at Ann Morrison Park. We decided that Chewy should be on the official program's front cover. Here are a few of the photos that we are considering. My favorite is the 2nd one.

Chewy just LOVES the water and it was so hard keeping him out of it. After a few minutes we let him go in after a stick & swim around. You can just see the joy on his face from being in the water!

Doolittle & Remmy

Last Friday night I went out to visit my friend's Mike & Cathy out in Emmett. They have a nice farm - Rockinghorse Farm www.rockinghorsefrm.com. I came out to meet Mike's (new to me) horse Remmy (the white horse) and to see Doolittle (the paint). I haven't been out to their farm in almost 2 years.

It was a beautiful night and the light was just gorgeous. Both Remmy & Doolittle had fun running around in the pasture trying not to get bit up by mosquitoes which were awful! I snapped a few shots of Mike & his big boys in between trying to get them to run or go out into the grass part of the pasture in the nice light. You can just tell that he loves both of them!

The last picture is of Stella out in the front pasture right before the sun went down. I don't think she could have posed any better!

The Backstretch

This morning I got up and met some friends on the backstretch of Les Bois racetrack. I have been meaning to go down there but first I had to go get my photographer's license at the racing commission. Me and my friend, Julie had both our cameras out & were taking pictures of some of riders as they rounded the bend and headed into the homestretch. I snapped a few shots back at the barn too as there is a lot going on back there with horses walking on the horsewalkers & peeking their heads out of their stalls.

It was great fun watching some of the riders exercise their horses on the track. The first picture is of my friend, Lindsey - doesn't she look like she is having a blast!

I have a story about wanting to race horses. When I was about 12, me and my friend decided we wanted to be jockeys and sent off for information about jockey school. I grew up in Illinois so there is a lot of racing back there and this is way before the Internet when you had to call or write a letter for information. We got the info packet filled with the jockey apprentice program and lots of details about what to expect. As a "tween" we were all on board to do this - when we got old enough of course! Unfortunately as time went on I grew way to tall to be a jockey and ultimately decided that I would rather jump horses than race them. Neither one made my mother really happy!

Go For Baroque Andalusian Show

This past weekend I photographed at the Go For Baroque Andalusian Show at the Idaho Horse Park. On Friday I photographed the dressage show which was outdoors. This show was indoors which was nice since the temperatures ended up reaching 100 degrees and a cold front came thru, bringing high winds for the evening session of the show.

This was an Andalusian breed show which consisted of in-hand, english, western and vaquero classes. Everyone looked like they were having a great time showing this weekend and all their horses looked fantastic!

Go For Baroque Dressage Show

I photographed the Go For Baroque Dressage Show today at the Idaho Horse Park. Normally I have been posting a few pics on my blog a few days after the show but I thought I would give everyone a sneak peak at a some of the photos from the day.

Everyone looked like they had great rides. It was a really hot day with the highs reaching around 95 degrees. I baked out there standing in the sand arena. But everyone ended up with great pictures in the end!

Look for your proofs on Monday night! Oops!- proofs went up Tuesday morning. Sorry for the wait but I had 2000+ images to go through and it took a bit longer than expected. I will be photographing at the Go For Baroque Andalusian Show this weekend.

Jazz in the Canyon

This past weekend Ben & I went to Twin Falls to enjoy Jazz in the Canyon. We stopped at the visitors center after arriving and got to see 5 base jumpers take the leap off of the Perrine Bridge. Ben counted the time it took from their jump to landing. It ranged from 12 to 18 seconds.

After seeing the base jumpers we went to see Shoshone Falls since neither of us has been there. It was a great place to stop and see the waterfalls as it was pretty impressive.

After that we drove around the countryside looking for Ben's uncles house. Unfortunately Google maps gave us directions that were way off and nobody was reachable to get directions. We eventually got directions and ended up at their house without any other mishaps.

Our purpose for the visit was to go to Jazz in the Canyon and hear my friend's group - The Jeni Fleming Group. They did not let us down with a great performance at a beautiful venue. As always it was great seeing Jeni & Jake (her husband) and hanging out with them for a bit after the concert. Check out Jeni's website and listen to some great music at www.jenifleming.com

Jeni and I were roommates when we were attending Montana State in Bozeman. Funny story on how we met - I was calling people from "roommate wanted ads" and Jeni walks up to me and asks if I am looking for a roommate. I say "yes" and she gives me her number. I call her the next day and go over to check out the place. Later that night she calls me with the details and says that she wants me to be her roommate - she has a good feeling about this. Next thing you know I am moving in. I ended up living with Jeni for a year and then moving into another apartment with her sister, Heidi for another year until I graduated. We have been great friends since!

Once Upon A Horse

This weekend when I was at Once Upon a Horse photographing the Barbara Cimino Memorial Dressage Show & Combined Test Jan Herrmann asked me to take a few pictures of her mares for her new website. We did both conformation and at liberty shots. I also took some casual shots of the horses when they were standing around wondering why these people are chasing them.

It is so much fun for me to shoot these types of sessions. Normally I am photographing everyone at the horse shows or randomly pulling out my camera when I visit my horse. The horses were cleaned up nicely with braided manes. It's just so much fun watching the horses run around the field - I just got the added bonus of taking pictures of them.

The challenging part of this type of session is getting the horses to stand in one place with their feet placed how I want with their eyes open and ears up. Sometimes that is a lot to ask of some horses - ponies especially. Usually it just takes a little patience and a quick finger for pressing the shutter button!

Here are a few pictures from the session. You can see in them that the light was constantly changing from overcast to blaring sunlight. Overall they turned out great!

Elijah - otherwise know as Eli

The other day I went out to ride and much to my surprise Eli had arrived. I knew he was coming at some point, but it was totally out of my mind when I left my house. I usually try and bring my camera when I go out there but not that day so I had to wait until yesterday to get a few pictures of Eli. He didn't let me down with photo opportunities with a bit of running around and antics of trying to kick mom. Of course he is cute as a button!

Eli is a thoroughbred colt born Monday June 2nd. He has a feisty personality that says "he is all boy". One thing about him is that he is super friendly. He seems to have figured out that people make great back scratchers and chew toys already (much to everyones dismay). Mom has some work cut out for her with this one! By the way he is not mine but my friends - Shelley & Shawna's colt.

Here are a few photos of him at a week old running, bucking, being curious and just hanging out with mom. There will be many more photos to follow in the coming weeks/months.

Barbara Cimino Memorial Dressage Show & Combined Test

This weekend I photographed at the Barbara Cimino Memorial Dressage Show and Combined Test at Once Upon a Horse in Eagle. Everyone rode great and the weather was a bit cold but otherwise it was a great day. Here are a few pictures from the event.

For those of you that don't know what a combined test is - it is a dressage test & a show jumping round. It follows the same levels as eventing - beginner novice, novice, training, etc.

I also photographed some of Jan's horses later in the day. I shot some conformation and at liberty shots. I will post a few later this week.

Summer Spectacular Hunter Jumper Show

This past weekend I photographed the Boise Saddle and Jump Club's Summer Spectacular Hunter Jumper Show at the Idaho Horse Park. I had a great weekend photographing everyone. There were lots of great jumping rounds and the horses looked fantastic!

The hunter/jumper shows always bring back good memories of riding and showing my old horse, Simon back in Illinois where I grew up. I occasionally pull out the old VHS tapes and watch a few of my rounds when I feel like reminiscing. Maybe one day I will get back in the ring with my current horse, Denali when I am not photographing at one of the shows.

On Saturday I had a pet portrait session with Mike & Kathleen's dogs, Kringle & Vanya at Eagle Island State Park. We had great weather and beautiful light for their session. I had a great time getting pics of Kringle & Vanya with both of them being so well behaved and photogenic!

Mike & Kathleen own Kringle's Korner Pet Health Food in Star. Their store carries all natural and organic pet food with great prices. The store is named after Kringle who they rescued on Christmas Eve. They have a couple of great goals to benefit the local community - to build a no-kill shelter called Kringle's Haven and to collect donations for the locale law enforcement K-9 units. Stop in and see them when you are in Star!

Yesterday Ben & I went over to Chad & Katie's house so I could use the kids as models again. Our friend Adam was over there with his kids too. All the girls were kind enough to let me follow them around snapping pictures and I even got them to pose with the dogs, Hank (the pointer) & Hailey (the yellow lab). I had to bribe Addie to smile by letting her use my big camera to take pictures after we were all finished. LOL!

On Saturday I will be at Wag 'n' Walk at Eagle State Park and some of the cute kids & their dogs pictures will be on display.

Boise Pony Club Jumper Show

Over the weekend I photographed at the Boise Pony Club's Jumper Show at the Idaho Horse Park. This is one of the big shows for the pony club kids. Everyone did a fantastic job with their rides, even if it was a little windy and cold!

For me personally it is great to see the kids riding better and moving up in the levels as the seasons pass. It is a testament to the their hard work and dedication to riding. Keep up the good work!

Idaho Dressage Festival

This past weekend I had the honor of being the official photographer for the Idaho Dressage Festival at the Idaho Horse Park. This year we had fantastic weather unlike past years when it has been cold, windy and wet.

I want to say I am sorry to anyone I did not photograph that signed up. My shoot schedule got messed up with all the scratches and ride time changes especially on Sunday.

Napa California

This past week Ben and I went to visit his family - Sharon, Donald & Jaquelyn - in Napa, California. We had lots of fun drinking all kinds of good wine and visiting a lot of the local sites.

After we arrived we went to the city to have lunch at the Cliff House restaurant which overlooks the ocean. The food was really good and the view was even better! Next we went to the Annie Leibovitz's photographic exhibit at the Honor of Legion. Her work is so inspiring - no wonder she is the celebrity's photographer of choice. Here is a pic taken in Golden Gate National Park of Sharon (Ben's mom), Ben and I.

The next day we went to see the Redwoods in Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve. The redwoods are so amazing with their sheer size and presence.
We decided to get up at the crack of dawn and go for a hot air balloon ride on Friday. We could not have asked for better weather for the flight. It was so peaceful up above the vineyards and farms.

You can't have a trip to Napa Valley without having wine. We stopped by Napa Valley Farms and had a private tasting in their back room. Ben and Russia (the wine dog) are spending some quality time together as we all enjoy a glass of Cabernet.

On Saturday we went to Bodega Bay and went for a horseback ride on the beach (sorry no pics from that). On the way back we stopped and picked up some fresh oysters that were plucked from the bay earlier in the day. Donald barbecued them up with either BBQ sauce or garlic & butter. They were divine! Of course the wine fairy stopped by for dinner and brought lots of wine to enjoy.

We had the opportunity to go sailing on opening day on San Francisco Bay with Sharon's friends - Dan & Allison. It was Ben & I's first time sailing and it was really fun! We headed out from the city to go out to the Golden Gate Bridge. There was a whale spotted out there earlier in the day but we did not see it. Ben is sailing the boat here as we approach the Golden Gate Bridge - it gets a little squirrelly after this so Dan takes over to take us under the bridge.

Teddy, Eddie & Doc

The other day I was out riding my horse and the light was just beautiful. I decided to go looking for the farm cats since I am always taking pictures of the horses. I found Teddy, Eddie & Doc.

I love cats but they are challenging to photograph since they don't listen when you ask them to sit or stay. But I did manage to get some great photos by coaxing them out into the light with little pieces of grass to play with and a little petting. We ended up starting up at the house and moving all the way out to the arena (the giant sandbox).

Yesterday I went to 2 different foster homes to photograph 3 dogs up for adoption; Roxy (black lab mix), Roxy (black & white pitbull mix) and Lucy (black pitbull mix). Info on each of the dogs can be found on the NAC website.

Spring Fever

This afternoon I went out to visit my horse, Denali. A cold weather front was moving through right about that time. With the wind blowing all the horses where running around and kicking up their heels. I think we are all ready for spring to be here after this long, cold winter.

As you can tell from the posts so far, I am in love with this mocha color on my photos. It looks old-fashioned and modern at the same time. I love how it adds a romantic, moody feel to a lot of images. I especially like it on these horse photos.

Bubbles

We went to a birthday party on Sunday at our friends, Chad & Katie's place. They have a couple of great kids, Erik & Tillie. The kids wanted to show me the bubble making machine outside. It provides hours of entertainment for Erik, Tillie and their friends. As you can see Erik was battling the bubbles with his sword and his karate moves.

It was so much fun to take these pictures. I just followed the kids around outside letting them play as I snapped photos. Occasionally I would have them look at me otherwise I let them do what kids do best - play! I just love these types of photos. There is nothing like having your kids at home just being kids and capturing those impromptu moments.

Ketchum

This past weekend we went up to Ketchum to stay with our friends Adam & Lori and their kids, Addie and Ellie. Addie had her first ski race at Dollar Mountain and Ellie is learning how to ski. They had so much fun. Sledding was also a big highlight of the weekend, the kids just couldn't get enough of it!

Here are a few pictures from the weekend. This year my goal is to start shooting a lot of my pictures in manual mode. The kids were great models for me as I practiced shooting with window light. I love taking casual portraits as they seem so much more real than the traditional posed shots. The snow pictures turned out to be quite challenging since the conditions were changing on a continual basis - cloudy, snowy, sunny, cloudy .....

I want to welcome you to my new blog. I plan on posting specials, new products, fun tidbits and pictures from events and portrait sessions. I just thought I would share a few pictures I took this winter. The first couple are of my horse, Denali. He is a great model and very photogenic - he seems to say "Cheese" every time I point the camera at him. I am sure you will see more of him in the future.

The next two pictures are of the horses at Harris Ranch. I went out there on one of the snowy mornings that we had this winter. Lucky for me they were by the road.
